AIS Outlines Research Collaboration Opportunities with SUNY Poly at SPARK Workshop

AIS joined faculty, students, researchers and community partners at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s SPARK Workshop (Synergy in Partnerships, Advanced Research and Knowledge) on June 24 to outline how the company and the institute can work together on research and student development.

AIS Chief Engineer Eric Thayer presented a range of ways SUNY Poly faculty and students can engage with the company:

  • Targeted research partnerships
  • Mentorship for short- and long-term research investigations
  • Participation in active corporate research efforts
  • Internships and experiential learning
  • Technical workshops and guest lectures
  • Engineering and cybersecurity competitions
  • Technical demonstrations and community outreach

Thayer framed those opportunities against the research AIS is investing in now:

  • AI assurance and explainability
  • Autonomy-enhanced cyber operations
  • Distributed RF sensing
  • Secure cross-domain systems
  • Edge AI analytics
  • Trusted computing environments

These efforts span the company’s four solution areas: Cyber Operations, Intelligence, Trusted Systems and Artificial Intelligence.

“AIS is committed to advancing technologies that help our customers operate securely in increasingly complex environments,” said Thayer. “Equally important is our commitment to fostering partnerships with academic institutions like SUNY Poly to help develop the next generation of innovators, researchers and cybersecurity professionals.”

AIS also pointed to its STEM and workforce development programs as ready-made ways to get involved, including the Autonomy, Robotics & Cyber (ARC) Games, capture-the-flag competitions, drone soccer events and mentorship activities.

The SPARK Workshop brought together industry and academic partners to explore collaboration across emerging technology disciplines.
