Barry McKinney is a Senior Vice President at AIS. McKinney joined AIS in 2005 with an initial focus on the development and sustainment of a robust basic research program, including the development of an active university outreach program. In 2015, he moved to AIS Maryland where he is responsible for new customer out-reach, project/program formulation and coordination and management across AIS technology teams.
Prior to joining AIS, McKinney was the Basic Research Advisor at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) where he supported the directorate as the first assistant to the Chief Scientist in the development, planning and coordination of basic research activity across the laboratory. Before moving to Rome, he was assigned to the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (detachment 1) in London, England. In London, McKinney was responsible for the development of basic research programs supporting cyber technologies relevant to U.S Air Force requirements. This included the development and coordination of research efforts across Europe, the Mediterranean and countries of the former Soviet Union.
McKinney earned his bachelor’s degree in Engineering from SUNY Buffalo, and his advanced engineering degrees, master’s degree and PhD from The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. McKinney serves on the Board of Directors at AIS and is also on the Board of Advisors for Syracuse University’s CASE Center.
